Parking
Here's something that you might not know... Parking services gives out permits based on a "ratio" system. This means that they sell more permits than there are parking spots available assuming that those spots will never be totally full. While this theory makes some sense (justifying them making more money), it doesn't make any sense for parking for the dormitories. Hello... do you see any apartment complexes selling more parking than is available!?? If you live there and have paid for a permit, is it unreasonable to expect a space for you? I remember night after night coming back to the dorms only to find no parking available... so you end up parking in the meter. What this results in is students crawling out of bed the next morning to move their car. Hopefully a spot will have cleared up, but more often than not you have to park on the street! Good luck there... those spots are often taken by those people who live in Manzanita/Juniper the night before. (Makes sense since they don't even have a parking lot.) Well, wait... can't you park in the blue across the street? Well, they might have changed this policy... but last I checked, residential is good only for residential. So what can be done to alleviate this situation? Don't sell more parking permits than there are spaces available! (At least those living on campus!) That way students can be confident that they can come home to somewhere they can leave their car without getting a ticket. Some distressing things that are coming in the future...
