The Fremont cannon symobolizes that we are a land grant institution. In the past, this meant that the university must have an active ROTC and Home Economics. Currently, the cannon is part of our rivalry with out sister university in Las Vegas. Every year, our football teams compete against each other for the right to keep it at their university.

This past year the cannon was destroyed when over-zealous fans from UNLV decided to take it apart.
