website is intended to give current and future students a fun way to learn
some of the interesting stories about their university. Because of its
nature, this website will always be changing and growing. You can help us

The University of Nevada
was established in 1864, the year of the state's admission into the Union.
The university first offered classes in 1874 in Elko as one of the rare
preparatory higher schools in the intermountain region. In 1885, the
university was moved to Reno, near the center of the state's population,
and it has flourished since its first year of formal college-level study
in 1887.
